Lesson 1 – Definition and Purpose of Spiritual Gifts
What is the difference between a spiritual gift and a natural talent? 1) A talent is the result of genetics and/or training, while a spiritual gift is the result of the power of the Holy Spirit. 2) A talent can be possessed by anyone, Christian or non-Christian, while spiritual gifts are only possessed by Christians. 3) While both talents and spiritual gifts should be used for God’s glory and to minister to others, spiritual gifts are focused on these tasks, while talents can be used entirely for non-spiritual purposes.
“When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men.” Ephesians 4:8
“As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” I Peter 4:10
"Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret?"

Lesson 2 – The Temporary Sign Gifts of Scripture
"Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness." Romans 12:6-8
"There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues."

Note: To rebuke the modern charismatic movements abuse of sign gifts refer to Deuteronomy 18:19-22; 13:1-4
"And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him. But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.’ And if you say in your heart, ‘How shall we know the word which the Lord has not spoken?’— when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him." Deuteronomy 18:19-22

"For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom;" 1 Corinthians 1:22
"Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle." 2 Thessalonians 2:15
"Having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone." Ephesians 2:20
REMEMBER: Every appearance of a sign gift found in the Bible is used to bring validation and confirmation of God's message and His messenger in order that people would have the opportunity to hear and believe God's Word. After the message was confirmed to be of God, the sign gifts were no longer needed and faded away. Therefore, Christians do not
need to have signs repeated. God's Word, The Holy Bible, has been confirmed so all can receive the same gospel message.

Lesson 3 – The Permanent Serving Gifts of Scripture
Heb 11:6 - But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.) The gift of faith is the supernatural ability to believe and expect great things from God.
I Cor. 12:8 – The gift of knowledge is the supernatural ability to receive by revelation and transmit by inspiration, a portion of the Word of God.
I Cor. 12:8 – The supernatural ability to rightfully apply and spiritually employ that information gathered through the gift of knowledge.
I Jn. 4:1 – The gift of discernment is the supernatural ability to distinguish between demonic, human, and divine spirits in another person.
Rom. 12:6 – The supernatural ability and desire to
preach the Word of God with power and authority.
Rom. 12:7 – The supernatural ability to expound and clarify the details of the Scriptures to other believers.
Rom. 12:8 - A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver (Proverbs 25:11). Barnabas had this gift (Acts 11:22-24).
Eph. 4:11; I Peter 5:1-4 - The supernatural ability to preach and teach the Word of God and to feed and lead the flock.
I Cor. 12:8 - The supernatural ability to minister to those sick and afflicted.
Rom. 12:7 - The supernatural ability to render practical help in both physical and spiritual matters.
(Dorcas had this gift – Acts 9:36-39; Phoebe had this gift also – Rom. 16:1-2) The supernatural ability to under gird the leadership of the local church.
Rom. 12:8 - The supernatural ability to accumulate and give large amounts of one’s finances to the glory of God.
Titus 1:4-5 - The supernatural ability to organize, administer, and promote the various activities of the local church.
Eph. 4:11 - The supernatural ability to point sinners to Christ and to burden Christians to soul-winning. (2 Tim. 4:5).
I Peter 4:9 - The supernatural ability to show Christian hospitality by opening one’s home and making personal resources available to meet the needs of others.
"But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way." 1 Corinthians 12:31
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law." Galatians 5:22-23
"For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth)" Ephesians 5:9
A word of warning! Do not become so enamored with your spiritual gifting that you only seek to serve God in areas that only benefit from your particular gift. Spiritual gifts do not work in that manner. We are called by God to obediently serve Him in ALL things. God will equip His people with whatever gift is needed to accomplish whatever task He has called us to.
Remember, God will never call you to do something that He has not already enabled you by the power of His Holy Spirit to complete!

Lesson 4: Using Your Spiritual Gifts To Serve
301 Class –Discovering My Ministry and How to Serve
Lesson 4 – How You Can Serve The Lord At Shoreline Using Your Spiritual Gifts
Committing to pray for the salvation of the lost, the growth and well being of our church and the health spiritual maturity of our members.
2nd Thursday of the month 6:15 - 7:30 pm (Meet and greet clients, share testimony, present gospel message, lead song service, pray and witness to clients)
3rd Sunday of the month 9:00 – 10:00 am (Share testimony and gospel or be a mentor to a troubled youth)
1st and 4th Sundays of the month our care team ministers by providing a Gospel service to those in nursing homes in Barberton and Wadsworth
Instrumentalists, vocalists are always needed. You will be working directly with Pastor Scott. Must be willing and available to practice with the praise team. Would occasionally work with the drama ministry.
Work with the drama ministry leader to develop and produce dramatic productions for Christmas and Easter.
Work under the supervision of the drama ministry leader to sew and create costumes for various productions.
Displaying God’s handiwork for the public. You would be responsible for weekly edging, trimming and weeding of lawn and gardens.
You would be responsible for serving beverages and snacks on Sunday morning and Wednesday evening. Clean up is also part of that duty.
A warm and friendly person is needed to answer questions on church ministries, take new information from our guests, and hand out gift packets.
A mature individual with some knowledge of computer and recording equipment is needed to set up and operate numerous types of equipment (ie. Mics, camera, laptop computer, projector, etc.)
Energetic people are needed to team teach students, supervise field trips and minister to teens.
